  • Stingers fashion a winning streak
Coming off an exhausting tournament in Guelph on the July 18-20 weekend, the Minor Peewees strung together their second league win in a row July 21 against the Etobicoke Titans. The lead changed hands three times before Jonathan Hudgin hit the winning run in with a bloop single to right in the bottom half of the sixth to for a 7-6 win. Sam Salemi started on the mound for the Stingers and held Etobicoke to just three hits over three innings. Johnny Tang struck out six in his three innings on the hill while the Stingers offence put 10 hits on the board, the most impressive being Robby Roycroft's RBI double. The squad is taking some much needed R'n'R before hosting Aurora July 28.
  • Stingers edge Mariners in come-from-behind thriller
The Stingers Minor Peewees played an amazing game July 17 and came from behind to beat Markham (arguably one of the best teams in the province) 6-5. The Mariners jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first but the Stingers answered with four runs in the second, three of them coming on a home run by Johnny Tang, his second of the season. Markham picked away to take the lead in the fifth inning, but in the end it was an amazing double play by center fielder Matthew Ing that clinched the win.

Stingers pitching held the number one Mariners to just four hits, most of which were easily handled by the tight defence. The win gives the team a great deal of confidence going into this weekend's tournament in Guelph. When it really counts...the Stingers comes to play!

"The minor peewee Stingers just finished up their best tournament performance this season in Mississauga this past weekend with 2 wins , 1 tie and a loss to the championship Tigers.

They opened the tournament with an amazing come from behind 7-7 tie to Hamilton on Friday night. Saturday morning they faced the tournament winners, (Mississauga North Tigers) and lost a 7-1 game that was much closer than the score indicates. The afternoon game was a convincing 9-2 win against Guelph. The biggest achievment of the weekend came Sunday morning against three and 0 Burlington. Ace Stinger Lefty Johnny Tang pitched 5 innings, with just 2 walks and 1 unearned run before Axel Steger hit a rope to left field to cash the go ahead run. That was quickly followed up by a 2 run double by Max bishop to send the Stingers on to a convincing 4 -1 win. All in all, a great showing!"
  • A close one...
The Stingers opened their season with an exhibition game in Maple against the Vaughan Vikings and lost a squeaker (7-6) in 6 1/2 innings. The Stingers held the lead of 4-1, thanks to a base-clearing three-run double by Sam Salemi and a solo shot by Johnny Tang, up to the bottom of the 6th when the Vikings scored 6 to make it 7-4. With the tying run on third and the winning run on second, it took an amazing catch by the Vikings to end the game in the top half of the seventh when Matthew Eng hit a long fly ball to right center.

The Stingers kept to their opening-day strategy of sending seven pitchers to the mound and the combined pitching staff held the Vikings to just four hits! A heartbreaker but an amazing effort by all.
